Inferring Chaotic Dynamics from Time{series: on Which Length Scale Determinism Becomes Visible
نویسندگان
چکیده
On large scales, a chaotic deterministic signal is indistinguishable from a random process. Determinism becomes visible only below a critical length scale. We analyse the dependence of this scale on the entropy of the signal and the minimal embedding dimension for state space reconstruction. Also the problem of the optimal choice of the delay time for ow data can be discussed in this framework.

Model Based Method for Determining the Minimum Embedding Dimension from Solar Activity Chaotic Time Series
Predicting future behavior of chaotic time series system is a challenging area in the literature of nonlinear systems. The prediction's accuracy of chaotic time series is extremely dependent on the model and the learning algorithm. On the other hand the cyclic solar activity as one of the natural chaotic systems has significant effects on earth, climate, satellites and space missions. Several m...
متن کاملDirect characterization of chaotic and stochastic dynamics in a population model with strong periodicity
In recent years it has been increasingly recognized that noise and determinism may have comparable but different influences on population dynamics. However, no simple analysis methods have been introduced into ecology which can readily characterize those impacts. In this paper, we study a population model with strong periodicity and both with and without noise. The noise-free model generates bo...
متن کاملScalar observations from a class of high - dimensionalchaotic systems : Limitations of the time
The time delay embedding for the reconstruction of a state space from scalar data introduces strong folding of the smooth manifold in which a chaotic attractor is embedded, which is absent in some more natural state space. In order to observe the deterministic nature of data, the typical length scale related to this folding has to be resolved. Above this length scale the data appear to be rando...
متن کاملRandomness, chaos, and structure
We show how a simple scheme of symbolic dynamics distinguishes a chaotic from a random time series and how it can be used to detect structural relationships in coupled dynamics. This is relevant for the question at which scale in complex dynamics regularities and patterns emerge. 1 Symbolic dynamics distinguishing chaotic from random dynamics 1.1 Random sequences and dynamical iterates Accordin...
متن کاملAggregation and sampling in deterministic chaos: implications for chaos identification in hydrological processes
A review of the literature reveals conflicting results regarding the existence and inherent nature of chaos in hydrological processes such as precipitation and streamflow, i.e. whether they are low dimensional chaotic or stochastic. This issue is examined further in this paper, particularly the effect that certain types of transformations, such as aggregation and sampling, may have on the ident...
